Francisco R. Gómez Jiménez

Francisco R. Gómez Jiménez is a Lecturer in the Department of Psychology at Brunel University London and a member of the Centre for Culture and Evolution. His research focuses on the evolution and cross-cultural expression of same-sex sexuality and gender diversity. Drawing on fieldwork in Northern Thailand and the Istmo Zapotec region of Mexico, he investigates how socioecological contexts shape gendered behavior, mate competition, and the developmental pathways underlying gender-diverse identities. His work tests evolutionary hypotheses concerning the persistence of same-sex sexuality while examining cultural influences on gender categorization, gender stereotypes, and sex and gender differences in sexual attitudes and behavior. Through comparative, community-engaged research, he aims to clarify how sexual and gender diversity emerges and is expressed across cultures.
