Is Leading ProSocial right for me?

This course is for people with ProSocial and/or facilitation experience

Leading ProSocial is designed for people who have prior experience facilitating groups and want to train to become a ProSocial facilitator. The course will be focused on helping you broaden your repertoire as a facilitator, beyond learning basic ProSocial concepts.

It is recommended that participants complete the “Introduction to ProSocial” online program, Becoming ProSocial, and/or  read the ProSocial book prior to registering for Leading ProSocial. You may also access other resources to strengthen your facilitation skills. For more free resources to prepare prior to Leading ProSocial, please contact courses@prosocial.world.

Are you already part of a team?

If you would like to explore the ProSocial process alongside your team members, the ProSocial Action Lab might be right for you. The ProSocial Action Lab works with established teams to build collaborative skills, go here to learn more about how you can participate.

Learning Objectives

You will learn to work with groups at two levels using four essential processes (see illustration):

1) Inner Work:

  • Enhancing self-awareness
  • Improving perspective-taking
  • Strengthening emotional self-regulation
  • Sharpening communication skills

2) Outer Work:

  • Facilitating groups to identify their shared purpose
  • Helping groups create fair and equitable decision making processes
  • Building skills to promote healthy relationships between groups
  • Practicing methods to work with groups of all sizes, in all contexts, at all stages

The ProSocial process is evidence based and informed by cultural evolutionary theory, and the science of behavior change.

At the end of the course, you will have:

  • An understanding of the ProSocial organizing framework at both the personal and collective levels
  • Skills to facilitate groups through Elinor Ostrom's Core Design Principles
  • Ability to apply methods of participatory action learning and research

At the conclusion of the course, all participants will be introduced to the ProSocial Community of Practice. There will also be opportunities to practice your skills by mentoring others, including the opportunity to coach in the ProSocial Action Lab. Once you have demonstrated your capacity and interest to lead groups effectively, you may also be invited to facilitate Becoming Prosocial programs on behalf of ProSocial World.

Time Commitment

Please prepare to commit 3 hours of time each week, for 8 weeks.

Group Learning: 2 hour workshops, held once a week via Zoom

Self-paced Learning: 1+ hour per week of self paced learning, which will blend reading, watching related material, and practicing

The course will conclude with a sharing of lessons learned and opportunities to plan future collaborations within the ProSocial community.
